Weekly Wishes Wk. 22

weeklyheaderpicture

last weeks wishes

Give myself a pedicure.  Didn't get to it!

Health and fitness.  I'm doing really terrible with my fitness and I do great with my eating until the weekend hits! I think it's time to go back to the basics and get my head back in the right spot.

Read a book.  I finally finished Gone Girl and I hate to say it but, I wasn't very impressed with the ending. So many people love this book, but I just felt very unsatisfied when I got to the end.

Work on the blanket I am crocheting.  I didn't work on this at all.

Stay up to date with cleaning.  I'm so proud of myself for keeping up with this so well. It feels good to look around and see everything so clean, but I have to admit, I am a maniac when I see someone making a mess.

Bible Study with the kids.  I managed this ONE night. I guess one is better than none. I need to somehow fit this in better.

Work on our Fairy Garden. I haven't had a chance to get out and work on it like I want.

Mow the grass.  Got it done!

this weeks wishes

Give myself a pedicure.  3rd times the charm, am I right?

Health and fitness.  I like this little system I have going so I am going to keep at it. Let's get back to the basics here. One mile will be a lot considering I have managed ZERO for the last 3 weeks.
  • Eat clean
  • Drink 80 oz of water a day
  • Run 1 mile

Read a book.  A Love that Multiplies.

Make a crochet banner.

Stay up to date with cleaning.  Maintain a clean house using Flylady for cleaning. I personally love it and have been very successful with using the Flylady methods in the past. I purchased her book last year, which I recommend for starting out because the website can be a bit overwhelming. I would like to get back on track and maintain a clean home so that we can spend more time outside playing with the kids, instead of inside cleaning.

Bible Study with the kids and Jason.

Update my blog binder.

Mow the grass. Yes, again! It's a once a week thing around here!

Family meeting with Jason. The pastor at our church had a great family meeting idea that couples can do together that I really liked and want to start doing with Jason.

Weekly Wishes #21

weeklyheaderpicture

last weeks wishes

Give myself a pedicure.  I didn't get around to this one.

Health and fitness.  I like this little system I have going so I am going to keep at it.
  • Eat clean - I always do great during the week and terrible on the weekends.
  • Drink 80 oz of water a day - I've definitely been drinking my water. I've been adding fruit to it.
  • Run 6 miles - Nope. I ran zero miles again this week. I don't know what my deal is.
  • 100 push-ups for the week - I did 50.
  • 200 sit ups for the week - None of these!
  • 300 squats for the week - I killed it on these! 550 squats! Woo Hoo!
  • Work on pull ups - Didn't do it!
  • Step out and move about - We spent a lot of time outside and even went to the parks.

Read a book.  I definitely read but didn't finish my book. It's been slow going with this one.

Work on the blanket I am crocheting.  I didn't work on this much.

Stay up to date with cleaning.  I totally stayed on top of things and it felt great. If I stay on top of it, it really only takes me less than 30-45 minutes every day to maintain it. I don't know what that is so hard for me to stay with.

Bible Study with the kids.  We talked about some things but we didn't actually do the bible study they bring home from church. They basically did it themselves.

Finish our Fairy Garden. Didn't finish it because it basically rained all of M-F.

Start a TV series.  I started watching 19 Kids and Counting. I am definitely not a reality TV watcher, but I am intrigued by the Duggars and want to learn more about them and how they raise their family.

this weeks wishes

I actually have nothing on my schedule all week until next weekend and it feels great. I am going to enjoy it and make these goals easy by basically stay with the ones I had last week.

Give myself a pedicure.  Let's try this one again.

Health and fitness.  I like this little system I have going so I am going to keep at it. I lowered the number of miles to run in hopes that I can get out of this running funk I am in.
  • Eat clean
  • Drink 80 oz of water a day
  • Run 3 miles
  • 100 push-ups for the week
  • 200 sit ups for the week
  • 300 squats for the week
  • Work on pull ups.

Read a book.  Hopefully finish Gone Girl and then maybe start on another book from my list.

Work on the blanket I am crocheting.  My mom gave me all of my grandmother's crochet stuff and I immediately dove into making a blanket. I really want to make some progress on it this week.

Bible Study with the kids.  This really shouldn't be that hard for me, but it is. The kids get a Bible Study page every Sunday at church, but they usually end up doing it themselves without me. I really want this to be something we do together.

Work on our Fairy Garden. We started a fairy garden with the kids last week. Ever since seeing the movie Epic, months and months ago, the kids have wanted to build one. We finally got around to it! Yeah, I know the movie isn't really about fairies, but that's what they call them.

Mow the grass. Yes, we actually have to put this on our list for it to get done. We are NOT yard work people. We have already discussed hiring someone as one of our luxuries one day.

monthly wishes

Work on the yard. We don't put much effort into how our yard looks since we are hoping for a move in our future, but it still feels good to look out there and see things looking nice.

Wash our van. Luckily we got the rubber all weather mats when we got our van and it has saved us from dirt and mud in our rugs and makes it super easy to clean. Its now time for a vacuum, wash of the rubber mats, and an outside wash.

Go outside every day. Even in the rain if we have to!

Paint our walls.  White or antique/eggshell/off white (I have no clue what the differences are) will be the tough decision. Dare I say we are planning for a move? It's still a bit off for us, but we are slowly starting to get things ready. A lime green kitchen may not go over well for the next person.

April Monthly Wishes that I accomplished: Planted our container garden, Cleared off our porch, and spent well over 5 hours outside. Didn't get to painting our walls, so I will hopefully be getting to that this month.

My Life's Contingency Plan - Quickly Recovering When Life Gives Me Lemons

downtownraleigh5

I think we are all guilty of envisioning life as one way and later hitting that wall where things turn out nothing like the picture in our head. I pretty much live my life in a state of disappointment because of this. Not because my life totally sucks, or isn't filled with moments of greatness, but because I hold myself and my family to such a high standard at times, that when things don't go how I planned, I pretty much fall apart. Such a terrible quality of mine. I spend so much time complaining about the end results that I don't take the time to reflect on the journey. Often times, the journey is the best part, regardless of the outcome.

downtownraleigh4

Typically, a contingency plan is a plan derived for business, in case of a major event, such as a fire, severe weather, or even acts of terrorism. It's scary to think that companies have to plan for these things, but we do. It's simply a written way of saying, that if a problem should arise, here are the ways to reduce the impact, or loss of integrity, to this business. Not necessarily a smooth transition back to normalcy, but certainly better starting point than if you are left to deal with a crisis unprepared.

downtownraleigh6

Of course, life is filled with surprises, and even crisis situations, but I thought I could use these same principles in my own life to deal with minor, and perhaps even major, events that can sometimes hit me off guard and throw me off track. I have been trying to move myself and my family onto a more positive path, and I felt that just having a plan was a great way to not let unexpected circumstances demolish the overall enjoyment of life. That's not to say that you, or even myself, is expected to spring back from a hardship such as a fire, or a death, or anything similar, with a smile on your face, but when those times come, you will be better equipped to deal with them. I simply want to enjoy my life more, right now, as it is, regardless of our current situations, obstacles, or inconveniences and be prepared for those to come.

downtownraleigh3

My Life's Contingency Plan
(and how to create one of your own)

1. What are your values?

In the past, I have talked about how important it is for me and my family to live according to our values. I always suggest listing at least 5 things that are most important to you. I have shared my 5 before, but I have added to the list here, to include a few more.

  • Faith
  • Family
  • Health
  • Education
  • Financial Independence
  • Simplicity
  • Integrity

2. What goals do you have that are based on your values?

I personally keep broad goals for each one and then break them down into smaller goals as I see fit. Here are some of my overall goals, according to my values.

  • Praying and attending church regularly
  • Spending less and setting financial goals
  • Include fitness and to be more aware of what we eat
  • Spending quality time as a family, making time for Jason and I together, allowing each of us to have alone time.
  • Reading and constantly continuing to learn
  • Maintaining a clean home
  • Demonstrating reliability with myself and others

3. Surround yourself with those you can count on.

Of course, I always trust and turn to God as part of my life plan, but I can't say that, even when trusting Him, things don't hurt, or make sense, or even make me a little frustrated when His plan is a little different than what I had in mind. It's always great to have those you can count on in times of need.

Some people I keep in my little circle are God, church members, my family (including Jason and my children), my parents (and Jason's parents), friends, teachers, and even doctors. You don't need a million people in your life, just a few really great ones.

4. What do you hope to gain from these people?

For me, I have zero desire to gain anything tangible from people (unless it's cookies. Yep, I'll take some cookies!). Surrounding myself with people to guide me, to listen to me (even if it's just to vent), to make suggestions if I need them, to hug me when I am hurting, and to love me unconditionally, regardless of how crazy I act or what decisions I make, is all I need.

Ditch the negative people, or the people who only come around when they need you for something. And don't take advantage of those people either. You must make an effort to be in the lives of these people if you expect them to be in yours.

5. How do you plan to put all of this into action if something negative occurs?

When life gives me lemons, I hope to turn to this list, access what I value most and conclude whether I am living according to those values. Most often, we will discover that we've either lost sight of what is most important, or that circumstances simply happen. We can't always change the way things turn out, but we can change how we choose to handle them. I will turn to God, and when necessary, count on my friends for support, to find the positive, and even through tears, make this journey enjoyable, memorable, and more worth living.

downtownraleigh1

Of course, the true test is putting this plan into practice, but I look forward to it!

*Photos are from a recent family outing in downtown Raleigh and don't really pertain to this post. I love looking back on them with a more positive eye because, if I am being honest, Elijah was a flipping nightmare that day and my blood pressure was through the roof. Ha!

Weekly Wishes #20

weeklyheaderpicture

What a week! By week's end, I basically crashed, so I didn't get nearly as much done as I had hoped. But, needless to say, I rounded out the weekend with a productive Sunday, so that's good.

last weeks wishes

Get the laundry caught up.  Done! I did multiple loads of laundry every day last week and actually got what felt like a never-ending battle, finished. Of course, laundry is never actually finished, but as long as I maintain one load a day, things should stay under control.

Health and fitness.  HUGE FAIL!
  • Eat clean - great M-F but the weekend got me.
  • Drink 80 oz of water a day - for the most part.
  • Run 6 miles - I did absolutely NO running last week.
  • 100 push-ups for the week - None of these either.
  • 200 sit ups for the week - Zero!
  • 300 squats for the week - I did 150.
  • Work on pull ups - Nope!
  • Step out and move about - I got outside quite a bit this weekend.

Read a book. I am reading Gone Girl, another book I have had for over a year and think it's time to read before the movie hits theaters. Didn't get far into it, but I made an effort to read, so I am checking this off since my goal wasn't to finish.

Help my Mom with my Grandmother's stuff.  I miss my grandmother like heck, but we got it done, and I even got her vintage bed sheets, something I actually did want. That's what took me so long with the laundry this week. I had about 40+ sheets to wash.

Start a cleaning schedule.  Definitely got started and am already feeling better. A filthy house is a huge stressor for me. It actually makes me depressed.

Bible Study with the kids.  We talked about Jesus and prayed a lot but we didn't do the Bible Study together like I had wanted.

Finish our Fairy Garden. Worked on it some, but didn't finish.

this weeks wishes

Quite honestly, I am exhausted! I feel tired and lazy, and like I am just not getting enough rest. So, I am totally making this week mine! I can't just let the house fall apart, so I always have to maintain that, especially with all the work I put in last week, but I am adding lots of stuff for just me this week.

Give myself a pedicure.  I usually just do a quick paint of my nails and I'm done. This week, I want to take the time to really give my feet some attention with a soak and scrub, then a fun design.

Health and fitness.  I like this little system I have going so I am going to keep at it.
  • Eat clean
  • Drink 80 oz of water a day
  • Run 6 miles
  • 100 push-ups for the week
  • 200 sit ups for the week
  • 300 squats for the week
  • Work on pull ups.
  • Step out and move about

Read a book.  Hopefully finish Gone Girl and then maybe start on another book from my list.

Work on the blanket I am crocheting.  My mom gave me all of my grandmother's crochet stuff and I immediately dove into making a blanket. I really want to make some progress on it this week.

Bible Study with the kids.  This really shouldn't be that hard for me, but it is. The kids get a Bible Study page every Sunday at church, but they usually end up doing it themselves without me. I really want this to be something we do together.

Start a TV series.  I almost never watch TV, but I have been wanting to take some time to watch a new series. I actually do like watching TV, I just don't have the time. Not sure what I should watch though. What do you recommend?

Weekly Wishes #19

weeklyheaderpicture

last weeks wishes

Prepare Spring Break activities.  Fail! So much came up that I didn't get around to it. We were on the go so much that we would never would have had the time anyways. The kids did get to see Rio 2 though.

Health and fitness.  Considering the busy week, I got in more than I thought I would. I'm crossing this off only because I feel like you can never fail at health and fitness as long as you aren't giving up.  I did splurge a little with my clean eating during Easter though.
  • Eat clean - for the most part, until Saturday Easter dinner at my Dad's house.
  • Drink 80 oz of water a day - during the week.
  • Run 6 miles - I ran 4
  • 100 push-ups for the week - DONE! I did 125
  • 200 sit ups for the week - I did 125
  • 300 squats for the week - I did 225
  • Work on pull ups - didn't get to it. I can only do this at the park because I don't have a bar.
  • Step out and move about - I was outside a lot but not being as active as I should have been.

Read a book. I read A Fault in Our Stars and it was so good. I can't wait for the movie now!

Visit my Grandmother. Sadly, my Grandmother passed away this past week. I am just grateful I was able to see her before her passing and to let her know how much I love her. We buried her yesterday, Easter Sunday.

Celebrate Easter with my Dad and Step-Mom.

Take Mackenzie to get her eyes checked.  She is now sporting a new pair of glasses and she can successfully completer her driver's education class.

Start a cleaning schedule.  Too busy for it. :(

Bible Study with the kids. We didn't get to Family Bible Study, but we did lots of praying this week before and after my Grandmother passed.

Finish Easter baskets.  Done! They were the cutest! I wanted to share them here in a blog post but I just couldn't find the time. I purchased a large terra cotta pot for each of my 3 youngest children and filled them with a watering can, garden shovel, gardening gloves, organic seeds to plant, bubbles, chalk, and some candy. You can check it out on my Instagram!

Mini Date with Jason.  It was simple all right! We didn't even get coffee like I had hoped. But, it was just nice to get out without the kids for a bit.

this weeks wishes

Get the laundry caught up.  I have seriously considered throwing it all in baskets and carrying it up to the laundromat. I just want it done! Some people feel like they can't function with dirty dishes in the sink. Well, for me, it's laundry. It gives me major anxiety to see a giant pile of laundry and yet, there always seems to be one around here.

Health and fitness.  I like this little system I have going so I am going to keep at it.
  • Eat clean
  • Drink 80 oz of water a day
  • Run 6 miles
  • 100 push-ups for the week
  • 200 sit ups for the week
  • 300 squats for the week
  • Work on pull ups.
  • Step out and move about

Read a book. I was going back and forth between two books I wanted to read next, but I think I am gonna just choose a book on my Kindle app first. I have a few books that I want to read but keep putting off.  This week I am going to just go with Gone Girl, another book I have had for over a year and think it's time to read before the movie hits theaters.

Help my Mom with my Grandmother's stuff.  It seemed so soon to be going through my Grandmother's stuff, but since she lives in an area that has had a few robberies, including her house twice, my mom, aunt, and uncle want to get a move on things ASAP. Since my relatives live in Georgia, it's not easy for them to make a quick drive up, so it's important to them to get it done.

Start a cleaning schedule.  Let's try this one again! You either love or hate Flylady for cleaning. I personally love it and have been very successful with using the Flylady methods in the past. I purchased her book last year, which I recommend for starting out because the website can be a bit overwhelming. I would like to get back on track and maintain a clean home so that we can spend more time outside playing with the kids, instead of inside cleaning.

Bible Study with the kids.  Let's try this one again too!

Finish our Fairy Garden. We started a fairy garden with the kids last week. Ever since seeing the movie Epic, months and months ago, the kids have wanted to build one. We finally got around to it! Yeah, I know the movie isn't really about fairies, but that's what they call them.

Weekly Wishes #18

ww18

Another busy week for us! I am actually starting to embrace and enjoy the busy that has been in our life. Along with the Spring that is among us, it feels like a sense of renewal for us. Simply the best!

Over the weekend, we even managed to put in a new sink in our kitchen. The house we live in now is not our forever home, but Jason and I have agreed that we should be fixing up a few things as we continue to go through changes and make our way to a moving day. The new sink and fixtures make such a difference and I actually dislike my kitchen a little less now. I have really grown to love preparing clean and healthy meals and I hope that the next person to use our kitchen will enjoy cooking as much as I do and appreciate the benefits of that high arch faucet fixture we chose.

How was your weekend?

I didn't actually cross off much on my list, but after adding the number of other things I filled my time with, I feel very accomplished. So, that makes it all okay, right?

last weeks wishes

Declutter.  I think I am pretty much done with this one! I may have a few odds and ends to get rid of, but I am putting this one to rest this week.

Health and fitness.  I actually ate really well all week. Then, I ate out a couple of times since we were on the go, and I have felt guilty ever since. I did make an effort to order as healthy as possible though... except for the Starbucks... twice. I just couldn't help myself! I definitely drank lots of water. I always say 80 oz. but the truth is, I don't keep up with it. I am pretty sure I am making the goal though.

I also didn't run 8 miles, but I did run 5. I managed ZERO of the Blogilates videos, 25 push ups, all 200 sit ups (oh, my poor abs!), and 50 squats. As far as pull ups, I still can't do any! Ha! I half crossed this one off.

  • Eat clean
  • Drink 80 oz of water a day
  • Run 8 miles
  • At least 2 Blogilates videos
  • 100 push-ups for the week
  • 200 sit ups for the week
  • 300 squats for the week
  • Work on pull ups.
  • Step out and move about

Attend the runner's expo. We did go, but we weren't there very long because a certain 4 year old little boy just wasn't having it!

Finish reading The Body Book.  Not only did I finish the book, I actually read a second book, Desperate. I highly recommend this book if you are a mommy and a woman of faith. Such a great and inspirational read. Each chapter had a corresponding video to to with it that made me love the book even more.

Go through kids' Summer clothes. Here's how it went down... Phoenix needs new clothes. All of her old clothes I can pass to Tyler. Tyler now has Phoenix's clothes, some which are still new, and her old clothes as well, since most of those still fit her too. Elijah has plenty of shirts and needs a few pairs of shorts.

Encourage someone.  I am so upset with myself for not getting to this one. My week was so busy, I totally forgot. I will definitely be adding this to the list again soon.

this weeks wishes

This week is going to be another busy one for us! Since I have been enjoying the busy, I am looking forward to everything in store!

Prepare Spring Break activities.  If you are reading that with a puzzled look because you could swear my kids already had spring break, then you would be correct. They did have Spring Break but, for some crazy reason, our county has decided that the 11 days our kids missed for snow wasn't enough, so they decided on 2 Spring Breaks this year. It's all a bit confusing to me. I just go with it.

I would like to do some Easter activities with the kids, plus maybe even take the kids to the park and to see Rio 2.

Health and fitness.  I like this little system I have going so I am going to keep at it.
  • Eat clean
  • Drink 80 oz of water a day
  • Run 6 miles
  • 100 push-ups for the week
  • 200 sit ups for the week
  • 300 squats for the week
  • Work on pull ups.
  • Step out and move about

Read a book. I am devouring books right now! I just want more and more. I would like to take a step back from all the nonfiction I have been reading and read A Fault in Our Stars before it hits theaters. I've had it on my Kindle app for awhile. It's time I read it.

Visit my Grandmother. My Grandmother's health is greatly deteriorating and it is important to me that I visit her some. This is the first time she has ever been sick other than a normal cold or flu, so my Mom is taking it hard when they discovered she has cancer and may only live a few more weeks. Please pray that if it is her time, that the Lord cradles her in His arms and makes the rest of her time here painless and peaceful.

Celebrate Easter with my Dad and Step-Mom.

Take Mackenzie to get her eyes checked.  My girl failed the eye exam during her driver's education class, so I scheduled her an appointment to get those peepers tested and maybe even fitted for some glasses. She has to have them tested and fitted for glasses, if she needs them, prior to taking the driving portion of driver's ed.

Start a cleaning schedule.

We missed church for a couple of weeks, last week because Jason had a MANDATORY family fun day that we attended. Family wasn't mandatory but his presence was and since it was for family, we made the decision to miss church so we could go and support him.

Finish Easter baskets.  I was hoping to share my idea for Easter baskets but I am so behind that I am just now putting everything together this week. I already know what my plan is and what else I need, but now I need to go and get it all.

Mini Date with Jason.  Something simple since we will be out and about on Wednesday evening together at Lowe's picking up some stuff we need.

Weekly Wishes #17

redslippers

What a busy week I had! I can hardly believe I made it out with a smile on my face. I have to admit though, I am exhausted. It looks like I am quickly filling up my schedule again, and already have plans to cover next weekend as well. But, I'm scheduling at least one day for resting and reading my book, because as much as I love getting out, there's no place like being at home for me.

last weeks wishes

Don't freak out.
  • Phoenix's last week of theater practice - Practice every single day after school, and then the play is Friday night.
  • Mackenzie starts Driver's Education - Every single day after school for the next few weeks.
  • Teacher conference with Phoenix's teacher.
  • Meet up with Erica from Loyal RUN.
  • Finish editing some bridal portraits I took and then meet up to deliver them.
  • Pick up Elijah's birth certificate.
  • Elijah's Kindergarten physical doctor's appointment.
  • Pick up race packet for Color Me Rad (which has to be done in advance, so I can't do it the day of the run).
  • Color Me Rad 5k run.
  • Military family appreciation event
  • Tyler's growth and development doctor's appointment
  • Elijah's Kindergarten registration

That was my "To Do" list, and I totally kept calm throughout the whole week. In fact, I quite enjoyed my week because it was mixed with some pretty fun stuff. Phoenix's play was absolutely adorable. I am so grateful that her elementary school has a drama department. Meeting up with Erica was like meeting up with a friend I just hadn't seen in awhile. We had a blast hanging out and can't wait to do it again! And, the Color Me Rad 5k was amazing! Jason and I seriously can't wait to do another one, and we are already looking into it.

Health and fitness. I didn't run the extra 6 miles, but I did get outside and move around a lot with the kids, since I am doing the April Fitness Challenge to get outside for at least 5 hours and be active. I also did some Blogilates videos and over 100 squats. Plus, of course, I did the Color Me Rad 5k.

Declutter. I definitely filled up a couple of grocery bags, and I even managed to make it out to my church and donate everything that I have been bagging and boxing up. Something I hadn't added to my list but I was already in Raleigh, so I figured I would swing by and make the donation. My van was getting pretty crowded!

this weeks wishes

Declutter.  The hardest part of decluttering... forcing yourself to get rid of things that you just know you shouldn't keep anymore. Those things that just sit there without purpose, that you never use, but somehow your brain convinces you to believe that there will come that perfect time to need it. Well, my goal is to get rid of at least 5 of those things.

Health and fitness.  I am really stepping it up a notch this week. I don't have a specific goal in mind, I just like to push myself to do more and better. My goal is not to really lose any more weight as much as it is to just get stronger.

  • Eat clean
  • Drink 80 oz of water a day
  • Run 8 miles
  • At least 2 Blogilates videos
  • 100 push-ups for the week
  • 200 sit ups for the week
  • 300 squats for the week
  • Work on pull ups.
  • Step out and move about

That last one, pull ups, is a doozy for me. I am pretty sure I have a negative number when it comes to upper body strength. I have a goal of at least 1 pull up by the end of summer. One may seem easy but for me, that is a serious challenge.

Attend the runner's expo. The Rock-n-Roll marathon is in NC this year, and although, I won't be running the marathon (not ready for that!), we are planning to attend the runner's expo going on the day before the marathon. It's supposed to be a really great event with many of the top fitness brands being featured. Plus, lots of info, freebies, and contests.

Finish reading The Body Book. Yes, I am actually reading a book! For those of you who have been following me for awhile, know the struggle it has been for me to pick up a book lately. I finally did, and I am reading Cameron Diaz's book, The Body Book. It is surprisingly a really great book and it has really made me aware of my body, as well as how your body reacts when you don't eat healthy, exercise, or listen to your body.

Go through kids' Summer clothes. It may be a little early to fully pull out the Summer clothes, but I need to go through them to see what all fits and doesn't fit the kids. Normally, I sell the clothes that don't fit, but one of my goals this year was to encourage others and pay it forward more, so I will be giving them to a friend of mine.

Encourage someone.  We actually gave above and beyond what we normally would to 2 separate charities last week and it felt great! This week, I would like to do for an individual person, like pay for their coffee or something equally as exciting!

monthly wishes

Plant my container garden. It's that time! I would like to plant tomatoes, cucumbers, a variety of hot peppers, and zucchini.

Clear off our porch. I had really hoped to get this done in March but it was still very cold most days. The weather is showing signs of change lately so I am pretty sure the only thing stopping me this month are my excuses.

Step Out & Move About. 5 hours outside being active with the April Fitness Challenge.

Paint our walls.  White or antique/eggshell/off white (I have no clue what the differences are) will be the tough decision. Dare I say we are planning for a move? It's still a bit off for us, but we are slowly starting to get things ready. A lime green kitchen may not go over well for the next person.

March Monthly Wishes that I accomplished: I ran 34 miles, I started a book but didn't finish it yet, and definitely started planning our container garden.

Weekly Wishes #16

WW16

I will definitely be needing a lot of coffee to get me through this week! My Keurig died on us recently and I never knew how much I actually counted on that little machine to get me through my days until I didn't have it any more. Just more excuses to go to Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks, right?

last weeks wishes

Declutter.  I don't have much more that I can get rid of! Ha!

Health and fitness. I am totally checking this off even though I didn't do the Blogilates. I started the week off slow, but then I got my groove back and ran my miles, even breaking some records of mine. I drank tons of water, ate super healthy, and even threw in some push ups, sit ups, and squats.

Start planning for the Easter Bunny. I am super excited about the ideas I have for Easter baskets. I can't wait to share them with you, probably next week.

Do some research on ADHD. I have a new idea I am going to try out soon and can't wait to share that with you too... if it works! Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Start planning Mackenzie's 16th birthday. I talked to Mackenzie and the ideas she has for her 16th birthday are pretty simple. It involves one or two friends, sushi, and the Child's Play movies. Sounds crazy, huh? I have a few surprise ideas of my own too.

this weeks wishes

This week is seriously going to be THE busiest week I have had EVER, so I am keeping my goals pretty simple this week.

Don't freak out. My "To-Do" list is so long this week that I have been having internal conversations with myself about not freaking out if I start to feel overwhelmed. Take a look at everything going on this week, and then send me something to calm my nerves!

Luckily, Jason comes home this week also, and we are super excited about that. The kids know he will be home this week but they don't know when, so I can't wait to see the smiles on their faces!

Health and fitness. Run 6 miles and drink at least 80 oz. of water a day. This is in addition to the Color Me Rad I will be running.

Declutter. I am determined to fill at least one grocery bag a day with stuff we no longer need. I had been filling large boxes and bags, but now that I have gotten rid of so much, I will continue with smaller bags.

Tomorrow is the first day of April, but I am so busy this week, I will share the monthly wishes I accomplished from March, next week, as well as the ones I hope to accomplish for April. Have a lovely week!

Sometimes You Have to Push Yourself to Know Your Potential

At the beginning of this week, I just wasn't feeling a workout, and went three days without running or anything. I wasn't in any kind of funk, I just felt tired. My body was screaming "Go easy on me!" so I gave it what it wanted and rested for a few days. I even thought maybe I was trying to get sick, and that I would probably not accomplish my goal of 8 miles this week either.

Wednesday evening I started to feel a little better, and while I talked to Jason on the phone about some of the workouts he has been doing during PT, I decided that if I felt better on Thursday, I was going to challenge myself during my next run. I told him I was going to try to run my fastest mile in 9 minutes. Now, if you know me, you know, it's not about speed for me. It's all about distance. I would rather pump out 3 miles with a good pace, than to do one mile as fast as I can. I am slowly training myself to run further distances, because eventually, I would like to be able to run a half marathon. Burning myself out in a 9 minute mile won't get me there. Eventually my miles will becoming faster as I become stronger, but I am not at that point yet.

My goal was to run the mile in 9 minutes. My results were 9:13. I didn't make my goal, but it was still my fastest mile to date. I'm not gonna lie, it was tough! I was literally screaming at myself to keep going. I did it, it felt great to accomplish, and I realized that it really wasn't my body that wanted to give up, it was my brain. My brain was trying hard to convince me that I had had enough, but I blocked that little voice and pushed on.

I woke up this morning still feeling excited about my fastest mile, so I decided to push myself again, but this time to accomplish a goal of running my longest distance. I set a goal to run 6 miles at a pace that I was comfortable with and set out to see what I could do. Not only did I make it to 6 miles, I actually felt like I could continue on, but I didn't. It's all about baby steps for me, and I think it's important to revel in your accomplishments a little.

6 miles

Sometimes you have to push yourself to know your potential, but at the same time, set goals that are realistic. We all have the potential to run faster, run further, to do 10 more squats when your legs feel like jello, or to go a little bit further no matter what the workout is. I certainly never thought I would get there, but I am glad I challenged myself. When your brain tells you that you need to stop, keep going just a little longer!

I want to challenge myself in other areas as well, so I am definitely looking forward to Jason getting back from Missouri. We will be starting a fitness routine together and he is going to teach me some of the workouts he has been doing for strength training. Even he said that his whole body feels like mush after doing some of these moves.

What are some of the accomplishments you have had recently from just pushing a little harder than you thought you could handle? What did you discover you had the potential to do that you didn't think was possible?

Weekly Wishes #15

WW15

last weeks wishes

Declutter. One more large box added to the others. I am reconsidering the donation to my church after hearing from a close friend that a family in our area, who just so happens to be Mackenzie's middle school boyfriend's family, lost everything in a fire that destroyed their entire home this weekend. I feel compelled to help this family in some way, and I can only hope that the reason I have had such trouble finding the right time to take these boxes of items to my church is because they were meant for someone else. If you don't mind, please say a prayer for this family.

Health and fitness. I knocked this one out of the park. My goal was 8 miles and I ran 15 MILES! Woo hoo! Feeling very accomplished!

Take the kids to see Mr. Peabody & Sherman. Such a cute movie!

Do some research on ADHD. I keep reading some of the same things, but I just don't know where to begin. One of the biggest things I have learned lately is to just trust that the efforts I am making will pay off. To trust God to lead me in the right direction. I feel like if I just always continue to educate myself and try to put into practice what I have learned then I am doing the very best I can.

Prepare for Elijah's Kindergarten registration. The appointments are scheduled, the paperwork is filled out. The only thing I have left to do is pick up his birth certificate. I am just glad I called and spoke to some people because I saved myself $30 and the giant headache I would have gotten if I had to drive into downtown Raleigh and look for a parking spot.

Gather information about gymnastics for Phoenix and Tyler. Only $115 a month for my girls.

this weeks wishes

Declutter. You will see this here for awhile! If you need some help with your own declutter project, check out 40 bags in 40 days. And again, I love getting inspiration from the website Becoming Minimalist about the freedom of "less".

Health and fitness. Run 8 miles and drink at least 80 oz. of water a day. I am still following along with the March Focus on Fitness over at Fun, Cheap or Free. This week's focus is more sleep, which will be a hard one for me. I am also adding in some of the workouts over at Blogilates, as suggested by someone. I am doing the Beginners Workout Calendar

Start planning for the Easter Bunny. Last year the Easter Bunny worked his butt off preparing cute chalkboard painted, paint cans for each of the kids. They were a big hit, but I just don't see myself going in that direction this year. We always remind the Easter Bunny that candy is not really at the top of our list, so we like to give him a little extra notice when it comes to stuffing our Easter baskets.   What are some non-candy items you like to see the Easter Bunny leave in your child's basket?

Do some research on ADHD. This is another one that will probably be here for awhile. Just reading information and other people's testimonials about ADHD really helps me to better understand why my two girls, Phoenix and Tyler, do what they do. It doesn't make it any easier, but hopefully I can put some of the strategies I am learning into practice, and continue to read more that will help me.

Start planning Mackenzie's 16th birthday. Can you believe I have an almost 16 year old? In a way, I kind of like that I had her at such a young age. If you missed it on my Spring Bucket List, I need to start planning way in advance. I don't even know if I will have a party or what. If you know Mackenzie, you know parties aren't really her thing. But, at the same time, I don't want to under do it for her because... helloooo, 16! Not a big deal at all or anything. I guess the first step is to start hinting around about what kind of celebration she would like.

....................

This week will kind of be more chill because next week Jason will be coming home. We are all so excited! Plus, Phoenix has now moved into the phase where theater practice is EVERY SINGLE DAY! Next Friday night is the play and we can't wait to see it! The whole group has been working hard on this play since November.

My Spring Bucket List

Happy 1st Day of Spring!

Today is the first day of Spring and although it has been quite chilly the last couple of days, today is definitely a Spring day. The sun is shining, the temps are in the 60's, and we are excited about what's to come this season.

Years past, I have always created a Spring & Summer bucket list, but this year, I thought I would break it down more and just start with a Spring bucket list. This is a pretty simple list to start off with, and more than likely, we will continue to add to it.

springbucketlist

Exciting, huh? I can hardly believe I will be running my first 5k in less than 3 weeks. And holy cow, my oldest will be 16 this year! I feel like I just graduated from high school myself. I look forward to sharing it all along the way.

What do you have on your Spring Bucket List? I would love to hear about some of the things you have planned this Spring.

Weekly Wishes #14

ww14

last weeks wishes

Declutter. I filled a few more boxes and bags with trash and stuff to donate.

Health and fitness. I only ran 5 miles this week. Mackenzie spent a couple of days with a friend and I kinda sorta need her to watch the kiddos when I am running. Plus we spent a lot of time outside. I didn't really keep up with my water intake, but I was drinking only water and a lot of it.

Take the kids to see Mr. Peabody & Sherman. We decided to put this off until this coming week instead. It was Spring Break week, but the weather was so nice for most of the week, the kids actually didn't want to be inside at all.

Do some research on ADHD. I did do a little bit of reading and will be trying some new strategies soon. I still want to continue reading more though.

Go for a walk with the kids every day. We didn't actually walk anywhere in the neighborhood, but we spent a lot of time in the yard.

Sand my desk chair. I didn't get to this one. I kinda knew I wasn't going to get to it though. Probably need to do this when they are back in school.

this weeks wishes

Declutter. I am on a roll... must keep going!

This week's focus is no added sugar.

Take the kids to see Mr. Peabody & Sherman. Ok, so I know my kids want to see this movie, but now I do, ever since there was a reference to pastor Andy George at our church. If you saw him, you would definitely see the likeness he has with Sherman.

Do some research on ADHD. Just reading information about ADHD really helps me to better understand why my two girls, Phoenix and Tyler, do what they do. It doesn't make it any easier, but hopefully I can put some of the strategies I am learning into practice, and continue to read more that will help me.

Prepare for Elijah's Kindergarten registration. I have a little over 3 weeks before Kindergarten registration, but I want to make sure I have everything I need. Elijah has an appointment coming up, I have filled out the paperwork to get his birth certificate, and I still need to fill out the school paperwork. Fortunately, I have met all of the Kindergarten teachers at the school he will be attending, since my girls went to the same school, and I love each and every one of them. That is definitely a weight off my shoulders.

Gather information about gymnastics for Phoenix and Tyler. Both girls used to take gymnastics and really loved it, but where they took it was so far away. There is a closer gym that I would like for them to go to, but since Phoenix has theater practice several days a week now, I will have to wait until later next month to sign them up. I really want them to do it during the week, because it actually would fit our schedule best, but for now, I need to make a few phone calls to find out all the info. This may even be something I put Elijah into also.

Weekly Wishes #13

ww13

last weeks wishes

Declutter. This is a work in progress but I totally rocked it! 5 boxes of stuff! I am participating in the 40 bags in 40 days and am on a roll.

Run 8 miles. Got them all in again this week! The Color Me Rad 5k is less than a month away now and I can't wait!

Read one chapter. BAM! Did it! I was not going to let that one slip under the radar this week! Ironically, the book I am reading is The Power of Habit. Ha! Perhaps I will learn how to get into the habit of reading!

Drop off some donations at our church. I went and discovered that the day I was there was the one day they are closed to donations. So technically, I did it, but I didn't do it! I guess I won't count it until I have actually made the donation.

Make a fitness tank. I made a couple of these! Check them out here!

Practice letters and numbers with Elijah. Well, we did it, but not without a struggle. I definitely found a more creative way that keeps his attention about 2.5 seconds longer, but I feel like we did make some progress and that's all that matters, right? I eventually convinced him to paint his letter A after telling him that Captain America has an A in his name and that we should mail it to him after he paints it. Whatever works!

this weeks wishes

Declutter. In my mind, there's always more to get rid of. I love getting inspiration from the website Becoming Minimalist about the freedom of "less".  Plus I will continue filling up my 40 bags for the next few weeks.

Health and fitness. Run 8 miles and drink at least 80 oz. of water a day. I am also following along with the March Focus on Fitness over at Fun, Cheap or Free. This week's focus is drinking your water. It's nice to be able to follow along with other like minded people.

Take the kids to see Mr. Peabody & Sherman. They are all pretty much begging to go.

Do some research on ADHD. If you didn't know, I struggle every day to keep my sanity because Phoenix and Tyler's behavior is out of control. They both have ADHD, and I feel like I am at a point where the only thing I can do anymore is to just keep educating myself on how to handle them better. I am so grateful for the friends and family I have that actually understand what I go through, the time it takes away from my other children, and even my relationship with Jason, and are willing to love and support me through it all.

Go for a walk with the kids every day. It's supposed to be nice at least half of the week, so getting outside will be good for all of us.

Sand my desk chair. Several people are wanting to see my new desk space, but I don't want to share until I have completed everything, including the chair. I actually had this chair already and started sanding it last year, but didn't get around to finishing it. It's time to make some progress on it!
