Not to toot my own horn, but around here, I am pretty much amazing when it comes to Rice Krispie Treats. Every time I make them, I get so many compliments on them. I can't even remember the last time I made regular ol' Rice Krispie Treats, because I am usually trying to come up with new ways to make them different.
Recently, I got the idea to add cherry flavored Kool-Aid to the batch of marshmallows for a fun and flavorful Valentine's treat. Talk about yummy! I only ate one, but I totally wanted to sneak away with the whole batch and eat myself into a sugar coma! Of course, these can be made with any flavor of the already sweetened Kool-Aid packs, and I look forward to trying these with some of the other flavors in the future.
If you're a mom, and you've never made Rice Krispie Treats, you need to get on the ball! Rice Krispie Treats are like an important part of being a kid. Nearly every box of Rice Krispies has the recipe for Rice Krispie Treats on it, even those generic brands, so I don't think you need me to give you the recipe, but just in case, here is the original recipe.
To make Cherry Kool-Aid Valentine Rice Krispie Treats...
simply add one packet of Cherry Kool-Aid Singles to the batch, right before you add the Rice Krispies, and stir. Afterwards, spread the mixture into a greased pan, add lots of sprinkles on top, and put into the fridge for about 15 minutes to set. After they are slightly firm, pull them out and use a heart shaped cookie cutter to cut. Serve and enjoy!
Wanna know the best part about these particular Rice Krispie Treats? It only cost me $.50 to make them. The Aldi near my house had leftover Rice Krispie Treat Christmas boxes and I got them deeply discounted for $.25 each after Christmas. Inside the box there was everything to make them except the butter. They even came with candy, icing, and molds to make snowmen or gingerbread houses. I let the kids eat the candy, we saved the icing for another project in the future, and put the molds away for next Christmas. Can't beat that, huh?
