But don't let the look deceive you because I have been preparing this green smoothie regularly since I made a few changes, adding more fruits and veggies to my diet and only eating natural sugars, such as honey. Lara from The Lazy Organizer prepares her smoothie without any added sweeteners, but I just couldn't drink mine without adding a little extra sweetness to mine by using the honey. Although my ingredients are fairly similar to the ingredients at The Lazy Organizer, I have yet to perfect mine so that it looks as beautiful as Lara's.
I have enjoyed this delicious drink so much, I ran out just yesterday and bought enough supplies to prepare {green smoothies} for the next 9 days (8 now that I made some this morning). The Princess and the Pea have enjoyed sharing it with me as well. I believe the ONLY reason Red dislikes my green smoothies is because of its color and because she actually knows what is in it. Otherwise, I strongly believe she would enjoy it just as much as the rest of us. The spinach is undetectable by means of taste and I could have easily claimed to have added food coloring to it (an experiment for St. Patrick's Day sounds like a good one to me), but she saw me make it and now her mind is made up. Her loss, more for me!
Here is a look at my recipe but be sure to visit the link at the top to see how beautiful Lara's green smoothie is.
Joni's Green Smoothie
5 cups spinach
1 whole banana - peeled
1/4 of a large avocado - seed removed and peeled (optional)
1 whole carrot (optional)
1/2 cup honey
1 bag of frozen mixed fruit - 16 oz. bag
Pour into glasses and ENJOY!
You can experiment with different fruits and veggies, but you may not have the same bright green. I experimented and that is how I came up with adding the carrot and avocado. I prefer adding them because my children are able to get more of their veggies for the day, since I have such a hard time getting them to eat them.
