I Had a Grat Tim Win I was Checricret!

Okay, this was too funny not to share, so,  let me translate this video before you watch it. It says...

Clearly the guy is reading it how it is spelled, but how funny is it when we first learn to write how the words sound?

I have watched this short little video no less than 20 times in the last few days because it not only reminds me of the beginner's writing my children have done, but the writing I did in my own writing journal when I was in first grade. I only lost my first grade journal within the last 10 years and I clearly remember a part where I said I wanted Santa to bring me lot of "toes" for Christmas. I am pretty sure I meant toys.

I hope this puts a smile on your face as much as it did for me.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween from the Moore Family!

Do you love my Happy Halloween sign up there? I totally made that myself! Jason brought home some pallet wood for me a few months ago and I finally got around to using it. I have plans for a couple more for the upcoming holidays, so perhaps I will do a tutorial next month on how I created them. 

I truly hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween, but if I am being honest, I am a little over the holiday this year. October is usually my favorite month, and Halloween is definitely my favorite holiday, but I'm just not feeling it this year even though I have baked enough cookies, candies, and muffins for a small country, and handed out some pretty great gifts to encourage others. That part felt pretty good. It was nice to see my kids giving without the expectation of receiving.

Tomorrow is the first day of Novemeber and also the start of NaBloPoMo. Who's planning on joining in and writing every day for the next 30 days? I did really well with it last year and am planning to go for it again this year. Let me know if you are too. I'd love to follow along. 

                    

Five Faves: Adult Halloween Costumes

I have never actually attended a real Halloween party, but I sometimes fantasize about attending one, or even perhaps throwing one of my own. I wanna bob for boogers, germs, and saliva in a bucket full of apples and water, I want to learn all the moves ahead of time and rock the dance floor to Michael Jackson's Thriller, I want to conjure up spirits during a seance (ha, not really, that kind of shit scares the hell out of me), play the Halloween Mummy Relay with all my adult friends, and I want to have an A-MAZ-ING costume.

The last time I dressed up was about 5 years ago and I was Princess Leia. We dressed as Star Wars characters as a whole family, and looking back at those photos, I could have tried a smidge harder with that little ensemble I wore.

Here are five of my favorite adult costume finds. I bet if I were dressed as that mummy, no one would even recognize me. Well, maybe the fact that I am only 5 ft. tall would give me away!

Little Halloween Details

I used to always go overboard with the decorations when it came to Halloween. However, as I have gotten older, I have strayed away from all of the silly cheap decorations and opted for a few more simple decorations, many of which are handmade. Sometimes I look back and wonder what was I thinking.

I have definitely learned from experience along the way. Even this year, I discovered that keeping simple decor along with a neutral color palette around my home is the best way to transition from season to season without having to change every little thing. I love my bright blue Ikea curtains, but I don't love them right now as I have decorated my home with Fall colors. And I will probably feel very similar about them when I start putting up my tree and decorating for Christmas.

I made the garland that hangs across our entrance mirror a few years ago and have been hanging it ever since. I think I have hung it in a different spot every year since I made it and this year is definitely my favorite spot.

The scarecrow wreath was given to me by my dad and step mom many many years ago right after Mackenzie was born and we moved to our first apartment. I had planned to do something new to spruce it up this year, but I couldn't bring myself to change it. Even though it is faded and raggedy, it was one of my first decorations.

This can was an old coffee can that I wrapped with jute twine and added a bow to. I added a tree limb to it and some filler to hold it in place and we have been using it as an indoor "Fall tree". We have special plans for it next month. 

I had a bunch of fabric scraps leftover so I decided to make this scrap bunting to hang in our bedroom. I actually went overboard cutting and made several of these that I plan to give out to encourage others.

Growing up, Halloween was not that big of a deal to my parents. Throw a pumpkin on the porch and boom... that was Halloween at our house! I don't even remember carving the darn thing! So, how Halloween became my favorite holiday, I honestly have no idea, but I love it! Every year, I put up the decorations, bake all the goods, we carve multiple pumpkins, watch all the "scary" movies, play the games, and more. This past weekend, I headed to Target to pick up a 12-pack of Cottonelle Triple Roll Toilet Paper for a fun Halloween game that is great for the whole family. Sometimes we like to stay inside where it's warm this time of year, so this was a great game to get us outside and moving!

The Halloween Mummy Relay is also a great game to play if you are a teacher, or simply throwing a Halloween party at home. It's sure to bring lots of laughs as well!

• Orange cones (or something similar to mark off the finish line)

To play this game, you will need at least two or more teams, and each team needs at least 2 or more people. One person on each team will be the mummy. Once you have divided into teams and chosen the mummy, each member of the team, except the mummy, gets a roll of Cottonelle Triple Roll Toilet Paper. Before getting started, someone should mark a finish line using the orange cones. The distance to finish line is up to you.

The object of the game is to wrap your teammate like a mummy, from head to toe (be sure to leave a place for the eyes and mouth), as quickly as possible. Once your mummy is wrapped completely, with arms outstretched, in true mummy fashion, the mummy must run toward the finish line as fast as they can. The first team to successfully wrap their mummy and get to the finish line, wins!

 

A great alternative way to play this if you have a team with more than 2 players is to continue wrapping other teammates and racing toward the finish line until only one person is left. Or, what about racing toward the end and then having to bob for apples? Now that would be a funny sight!

This was such a budget friendly game for my family! My kids had a ball with the Halloween Mummy Relay and have already asked if we can play it again. I enjoyed it myself, and have even suggested to friends that we should get together and play. I am sure it will be something we continue to play year after year!

•  I am not big on those big, puffy, or whimsical fonts, so this font is the perfect Halloween font without all the showboating that some of those crazy fonts have going on. 
• I love this printable because I am a huge fan of the 80's movies, and Ghostbusters is definitely a favorite and on my list of Halloween movies to watch every year!
• Sometimes you just don't want the typical orange pumpkins and scarecrows adorning your porch. This is definitely a look that fits my style. 
• Black candy apples? More like poison apples! I need to make these immediately!
