The Polyvore Files: Halloween Edition | Sinister

SINISTER-MOV

Sinister didn't really get a whole lot of recognition at the theater, but since I love horror movies, I was dying to see it when it hit Redbox. That was almost 8 months ago so this file is old but I couldn't resist the urge to share.

It actually didn't turn out the be the movie I had anticipated but I thought it was ok none the less. However, I did think the storyline of the movie was semi creative and Ethan Hawke had a great performance... his character is definitely one to remember. In fact, his character stood out so much that I ended up creating this Polyvore file immediately after watching the movie.

ThePolyvoreFiles_1

I wish I had a better photo depicting his character, but once again the internet failed me and you will just have to watch the movie instead.

tv talk: 14 romantic movies

 tvtalk

the kind of valentine's movie for me... romantic comedy, which is why i love all of these movies so much (not stupid funny, those are lame). some of them are super popular big screen hits, so it shouldn't be too hard to find any of them, if you haven't already seen them before now.

i love making these little lists of my favorite movies for different holidays because it is great to have them available when i am celebrating holidays throughout the year. i love mixing traditions with new ideas. we are a big movie family (although most of my kids would say i don't actually pay attention to the tv while it is on), and we love saving certain movies for specific holidays. some of these are new, but we like these movies and love to watch them every year during this time.

pretty in pinkdream a little dreamcant buy me love

  1. pretty in pink
  2. say anything
  3. the proposal
  4. some kind of wonderful
  5. how to lose a guy in 10 days
  6. crazy, stupid, love
  7. p.s. i love you
  8. valnetine's day
  9. notting hill
  10. sweet home alabama
  11. sleepless in seattle
  12. dream a little dream
  13. the notebook
  14. can't buy me love

as you can see, i am a big fan of 80's cheese! all of these movies can be found on imdb for more info. and i strongly suggest you check out the soundtracks to these films as well. we can never forget this famous song from say anything

what are some of your favorite romantic movies for valentine's day?

25 holiday movies to enjoy

 tvtalk

my favorite holiday movie of all time is little women. it is a story i enjoyed as a child, in school when we read it, and continue to love as an adult. my dad even gave me a 1955 copy of the book at thanksgiving that he had been saving for me over the years. although the movies are never as good as the books, i do love a good movie too every now and then and some of my favorite movies are christmas movies.

 Little women 1994

here is a list of our favorite movies we watch every year during this time:
  1. unaccompanied minors
  2. elf
  3. little women (1994 version)
  4. the holiday
  5. the santa claus 1,2 &3
  6. silver bells
  7. national lampoons christmas vacation
  8. home alone 1 & 2
  9. four christmases
  10. the polar express
  11. deck the halls
  12. christmas do-over
  13. christmas with the kranks
  14. scrooged
  15. a christmas story
  16. the nightmare before christmas
  17. how the grinch stole christmas (version with jim carrey)
  18. all i want for christmas (1991 movie with ethan embry)
  19. santa baby 1 & 2
  20. jack frost
  21. good luck charlie, it's christmas
  22. the ref
  23. trapped in paradise
  24. holiday in handcuff
  25. eight crazy nights

okay, so it's more than 25 if you count the movies that have sequels, but i don't because when they have a sequel, you just can't watch one without the rest. these are all movies we enjoy most, but there are, of course, so many more out there, not to mention some new ones that we haven't seen yet. we want to see fred claus and arthur christmas. have you seen them?

all of these movies can be found on imdb for more information and ratings. what is your favorite christmas movie? what are some other holiday movies you enjoy that aren't on this list?

tv talk: 3 thanksgiving movies

tvtalk

although we put up our christmas tree and start preparing for christmas well before thanksgiving, i never start watching christmas movies until i have seen these three movies every year. there aren't a whole lot of movies that are situated around the thanksgiving holiday because, sadly, christmas tends to outshine this similar holiday of families getting together.

there are a few others that you might add to this list, but for me, it's all about these three.

1. son in law - who doesn't love the early days of pauly shore? after a few more of his movies, i was pretty much done with him, but this is hands down his best movie. a girl takes her a college friend, who grew up in the city, home for thanksgiving to her family's farm.

2. dutch - was this or wasn't this ethan embry's first movie? actually, i just checked and it wasn't his actual first, but it was one of his first starring roles. basically, he plays a spoiled rotten brat of a kid who gives his mom's new boyfriend hell when he does her a favor and picks him up at his prep school to come home for thanksgiving.

3. plains, trains, and automobiles - two strangers meet up and travel together to try and make it home in time for thanksgiving. if you haven't seen this movie, where in the world have you been?

thanksgiving movie_silthanksgiving movie_dutchthanksgiving movie_pta

please tell me you have seen all of these movies!?!? are there any movies that you watch for thanksgiving that you would add to this list?

tv talk: 31 movies for halloween

tvtalk

i probably should have shared this list a little earlier, but i just didn't get around to it, and you still have time to see some of these that you may have not seen or have forgotten about.

these are our top favorite movies for halloween. halloween is my favorite holiday and i usually watch the most tv during october because i love all these movies. sometimes i will not watch these movies at any other time of the year just so i have them to look forward to during this time of year. we prefer "scary" over "gory", so most of these don't have a lot of chopped up limbs or spewing guts.

31 days of movies for halloween (in no particular order):

{image}

the frighteners
the others
beetlejuice
silent hill
ghost ship
what lies beneath
signs
hocus pocus
i know what you did last summer
casper
scream
the sixth sense
dead silence
insidious
13 ghosts
the haunting
pet sematary
zombieland
the monster squad
gremlins
the lady in white
the ring
poltergeist
practical magic
edward scissorhands
the haunted mansion
the adams family
the descent
drag me to hell
ghostbusters

10 movies i'm looking forward to

tvtalk

i have been looking ahead to some of the movies coming out within the next year and have been getting pretty excited for what's to come. i just haven't been super thrilled about the movies coming out lately, and really had no desire to go to the movies to see anything other than a very select few movies.

however, come fall and into early next year, i am already getting myself hyped up about some of the movies being put out. check out some of these movies coming out soon:

  • resident evil: retribution - i am a pretty big fan of the resident evil movies. i must say that the fourth one was probably my favorite, but i truly love them all. i also really like milla jovovich.

  • the odd life of timothy green - about a family who wants a son, so they bury a box in their backyard with all the hopes and wishes they want in a child and a son is "born". obviously that explanation gives you the indication that this is not an ordinary story. looks like a great family movie.

  • paranormal activity 4 - yes, i know, these aren't exactly top quality movies, but i am a sucker for this stuff.

  • silent hill revelation 3D - i actually really liked the silent hill movie. the ending kinda stunk but the creativity that went into the characters of the movie was great.

  • the twilight saga: breaking dawn part 2 - the final movie in this series. i actually didn't really like breaking dawn part 1. it was long and drawn out and lacked action that the other movies had. however, this is the last movie and i look forward to wrapping this series up.

  • the hobbit: an unexpected journey - more of a prequel (kind of) to the lord of the rings series, this is the story of bilbo baggins and his adventures as a hobbit. the lord of the rings movie series is another one of my favorites and i hope this movie doesn't let me down.

  • the great gatsby - i read this book and dressed the part during the great gatsby day in high school . i look forward to seeing this book turned into a movie. the 1920's were a beautiful era and i look forward to seeing how well fashion is depicted during that time. i love carey mulligan and although leonardo dicaprio did a wonderful job in inception, in my opinion, he usually plays these timely characters of the past very well.

  • oz: the great and powerful - totally looking forward to this. this is such a classic movie so i would assume that unless this movie is top notch then they wouldn't have dared make it. again, this is another prequel to the original and appears to be far better than the insane remake, the wiz. another one of my favorite actresses is in this movie, michelle williams.

  • iron man 3 - i think out of all of the super hero movies, the iron man movies have been my favorite. these types of movies are definitely my least favorite, but i have really enjoyed these. plus, robert downey jr. is exceptionally easy on the eyes.

  • grown ups 2 - grown ups is probably one of my favorite movies specifically for its corny one liners. i love that kind of crap! they will probably ruin it with this sequel but here's to hoping that they don't.

you can find a listing of all upcoming movies HERE on imdb.

what movies are you looking forward to in the next year?

my all-time favorite animated children's movies

tvtalk

with the new disney movie brave coming out, it got me to thinking about my favorite children's movies. not in a long time have i wanted to see a disney movie more than this new movie.

movies have always been a big part of my life. my dad took me to my first movie when i was 2 to see the fox and the hound. although i don't actually remember going to see the movie, i take comfort in knowing that just my dad and i went to see that movie together.

i grew up watching the original animated disney version of cinderella. it was back when vcr's were how you watched movies at home, and it was pretty much the only vhs movie we owned for my age. i loved that movie. when i think back to my childhood, laying on our living room floor watching cinderella was definitely one of my fondest memories.

for years after that, i never missed a new animated disney movie in the theater...the little mermaid, aladdin, beauty and the beast, the lion king (the movies of my younger days)...but i never loved any of them more than cinderella.

as i've gotten older, and had children, i have seen my fair share of animated disney movies...finding nemo, toy story, monster's inc, and tangled are all great. i have even enjoyed some of the animated dreamworks movies like shrek, despicable me, and madagascar. there's even some pretty cute animated movies done by sony pictures (cloudy with a chance of meatballs) and warner bros. (happy feet).

but, my absolute favorite has got to be the movie UP.

death was touched in a way that would not be too dramatic for children in the movie, bambi, and even in dumbo. however, UP was able to depict death with human characters that was beautiful and real. but, not just because the movie has a "great death scene", does it make the movie my favorite.

all too often these days, children's movies have an adult undertone, with jokes and sarcasm only adults will get. although UP has a bit of this, it is definitely a fun, feel good, movie, filled with beautiful color and a wonderful message of friendship. it is an instant mood lifter, and even great to watch when you are sick in bed (been there, done that).

have you seen the movie, brave? what did you think? what is your all-time favorite children's movie?

let's talk TV

tvtalk

we love television!

if you know jason, you know that to be an understatement. but, if you know me, that may sound a bit ironic because i have stated so many times that i don't really watch tv. and i don't. but, only because most times when i put a movie on, i get distracted by my computer/ my phone/ my kids/ good food/ or i just fall asleep. it's almost impossible for me to watch an entire movie, that i have never seen, the first time. probably not even the second time either. sometimes it takes 10 times for me to see a movie completely (3 or 4 times if it is a 30-60 minute tv show).

we used to buy movies all the time. we have over 1,000 movies and tv shows on blu ray and dvd. but with the invention of redbox, on demand, dvr, netflix, hulu, and a couple other apps for iphone and ipad, i think we have only purchased 2 or 3 movies in the last year. it really isn't necessary anymore.

i am most certain i could not live without a tv. in fact, at least one of our televisions is on 24/7. we even sleep with the tv on in our bedroom.

we love tv so much, i thought i would make an effort to talk tv a little each week. i was a little hesitant at first because this isn't something i usually write about here on my blog. however, i feel like i am in a rut around here. and besides...this is my blog, it's a new year, and i think it's time for changes.

are you excited? i am.

i would love for you to join me by sharing your stories, favorites, and recommendations in the comments each week (mondays).

until then, check out some of the stuff i have waiting for us on the dvr...

these are some movies we haven't seen yet, let me know what you think if you have already seen any of them.

side note: just because we have TV on in our home a lot does not indicate the amount of TV we actually watch. it is actually a rule in our home that our children don't watch TV monday-thursday during the school year and we spend a lot of time doing many other things besides watching TV.

a message in the movies

eat, pray, love and crash.

a break in the clouds

the two movies i watched back to back yesterday.  i hadn't seen eat, pray, love, and haven't even read the book or even come close to really knowing what it was about, but i knew i wanted to see it.

when i saw it on the on demand channels the other day, i was quick to push play, but then decided i would watch it alone.  i am always an emotional rollercoaster and i just knew that this would be one of those movies that would take me on one of those rides and for some reason, i wanted to ride alone.

i had quickly forgotten about the movie, but since elijah was still not feeling 100% i decided to do a little cuddling on the couch with him and watch something.  like i said, i had forgotten about it, even as i cruised through the on demand channels.  then there it was.  i quickly pressed play and sat back to enjoy.

it did exactly what i thought it would. made me think. made me want to surrender myself and completely live in the moment, enjoying every little detail of each day.

but then as i ended one movie and changed the channel to put on something for background noise as i got up to do something more than just sit on my couch all day, i came across crash.  i have seen this movie before, but it is one of those movies that once again is a rollercoaster of thoughts and emotions and so i stayed...just a while longer.

and then after too many hours of sitting and watching, i found myself thinking about both movies.

both of them about coming to a realization about yourself and making changes.

9oclock

then i realized one thing. one thing was causing so much stress and frustration in me. this blog.  i have said it before and i will say it again...blogging is a lot of work.  it really is.  i love doing it, but i don't want it to be the only thing i do. some days i find myself saying "wow that would make a good blog post, or that would be a great moment to share on my blog." i want to actually live my life and enjoy my children without worrying if my blog will suffer for spending more time with my children or if people will stop coming by if i don't post every day.

and then i remembered why i started this blog in the first place.  it was for me.  so i could look back at all of those wonderful moments that i spent with my children and my family and remember. it's not about whether i took the best photo, or if my edit is perfect. who cares?

maybe you haven't noticed, but i haven't really participated in too much outside of just writing for my blog lately. it actually feels good to just write. straight from my mind. so, when i saw these two movies today, it confirmed everything i was feeling inside...that i need to find my true self and balance.

not quite a depressing feeling, more like a yearning. to take pictures because my children are so beautiful, and the sky is so blue, and the grass is green and i love it all so much. every moment. not because i have to get the photo for a challenge.

two stories that come to mind when i am in a funk are the daffodil principle and welcome to holland.
and i always find myself going to them for support.  check them out! you will love them both if you don't already know them.

so what does all of this mean?

well, i won't be taking off on a journey to find myself, but it is simple...i don't know! because knowing means i have a plan and i don't want a plan. i just want to enjoy what is around each corner each and every minute of my day.

if you are wondering, yes i will continue to blog. but only because i want to...not because i have to.

and if you haven't seen these two movies, go see them NOW!! (just be warned that crash has a lot of "language" not suitable for little ears, but please don't let this deter you from watching this movie. please don't!)

eat pray lovecrash

my photos in this post are totally random.

my countdown to christmas | my top 10 christmas movies

i don't watch a whole lot of movies or tv throughout the year, but at christmas time, i try to pack in enough for the whole year with these great movies i will over and over, year after year.

1. national lampoon's christmas vacation - this one is a given for a lot of people. i have been watching this movie every year since i was a little girl. who doesn't love to hate cousin eddie?

2. little women (the 1994 version)-

lw5a

i don't know if this is an actual christmas movie, but i remember going with my mom to see this movie at the theater the day after christmas. i love this movie. i loved the book too. such a great classic story.

elf3. elf - this movie has quickly become a classic in our home.  although the movie hasn't been out for too long, my kids can not pass up a christmas without seeing this movie.

4. the polar express - i actually didn't see this movie for the first time until last year. we own it and my kids had seen it so many times already, but i just never found my way in front of the tv to watch it.  i remember reading the book when i was younger. it was that one christmas book we always read every year. the book set came with a bell and my family always read that book with our neighbors, my mom's best friend. when i finally watched the movie, i fell in love with it. it brought back so many memories of reading the book throughout childhood.

5. a christmas story - i have loved this movie even before they decided it was a good idea to play it for 24 hours straight on tbs every christmas day. i don't ever watch it on that channel because i seriously think that it would make me hate this movie if i saw it on repeat like that. once is enough each year. i don't remember the first time i saw this movie but i am pretty sure it was one of the first christmas movies i ever remember seeing.

387998.1020.A6. the santa clause - i remember when my dad was so excited for me to see this movie. he and my step mom had just purchased this movie and it was the first thing we watched that weekend.  we all laughed and it was just a great moment that i remember with them.

7. silver bells - i saw this made for tv movie just a few years ago on abc or cbs or nbc, one of those channels and something about it just made me love it so much that i look for it every year now.  it can usually be found on the hallmark channel now.

8. christmas do over - this is another made for tv movie that i saw when it came out in 2006. i saw this movie while in the hospital with tyler when she was just 3 1/2 months old and she had rsv.  they had her on so much medicine that all she did was sleep, so i would lay in the hospital bed and hold her and watch tv.  as worried as i was about my little one, this movie brought a smile to my face.

756ee479337c45388b500f5142174b19_7
phoenix and elijah snuggling
9. home alone - only the first one! i just introduced this movie to phoenix and tyler this year and i hope it becomes a classic with them too. it was the first time they have actually sat down and watched an entire movie and laughed.  it was so sweet to hear their little giggles.

10. the holiday - the one time i ever thought jack black was more than just funny. definitely a feel good movie. check out the trailer below.

so those are my favorites, but be sure to check out amc, the hallmark channel, lifetime, and abc family for a ton of great family christmas movies. i have at least 20 on the dvr right now!

my top 3 tuesday - movie actors

these guys definitely make me blush just thinking about them, but they have been able to make me laugh a little throughout their careers.

1. robert downey jr. - don't know what it is about this guy but i really like him. loved him in the movie chances are (one of my all time favorite movies and my favorite rdj movie as well) and the more recent iron man.

if you haven't seen the movie chances are make sure you have a good 10 minutes and watch this clip. once you have seen it you will want to see the whole movie. it will make you laugh and cry!

2. dane cooke -

dane_cook

i think everything about this guy is just wrong that it feels so right. or what ever that means.  i just know that this guy is funny and sexy all rolled into one package. he hasn't made a whole lot of movies, but of course i loved good luck chuck.

3. johnny depp - not only is he nice to look at (yes, even when he looks a mess), he knows how to play a variety of roles. i used to watch him in 21 jumpstreet, but to me he didn't start to look appealing until the last 10 years. we of course have every one of his movies because i am not the only one who likes him. mackenzie has had a crush on him for the last 4 or so years.

weird huh? he could be her dad, almost a grandfather even!

favorite movie?  finding neverland for sure. also one of my favorite movies. i cry every time i see it!

here is the trailer for you to check out! i don't watch a lot of tv, but this is one movie i definitely recommend.

***just a reminder***

don't forget about the great giveaways i have going on right now. check the reminders and announcements at the top for links.

miscellany monday

wow! what a weekend and a busy week ahead! i have planned it all out and written my to-do list so that i don't miss a thing. i am sooo NOT looking forward to any of it!  i want to crawl in bed and hide. that's what i do when i feel overwhelmed...i try to hide from it all. i don't even know why i try to hide.  it's like playing hide-n-seek with a psychic, it always finds me.

1.  right lane closed ahead...left lane closed too!

tell me this!  why is it that every superstore i go to has enough check out lanes to service the entire county i live in, but they are never used?  NEVER!  not even on Black Friday or at Christmas! i am not saying that i get stuck in line for long periods of time or anything, but during those busy times, i have been known to.  however, even then, it's not a terrible wait, but it could be cut shorter if those other lanes were opened.  and since they aren't using them, why have them?  perhaps wal-mart's prices could be even lower if we weren't paying off the bill it cost to install all of the neglected check out lanes that are built each time a wal-mart opens. just sayin'.

2.  i must be dreaming

Mack and i went to see Inception last night.  i had seen the trailer and i had heard some things about it and i had been wanting to see it and she had too, and although i wasn't sure if she would understand it, i wasn't so sure i would understand it either, so i thought, "what the heck, we'll just go not understand it together".  we totally understood it...i think!  either way, it is an awesome movie.  i am so glad we went to see it. and just so you know, without giving anything away, it's a movie about dreaming. that's all i'm sayin'.  here is the trailer just in case you have no idea what movie i am talking about.

i hope everyone has an awesome week ahead.
