8 weeks to a better me | week 5: loving life & having fun

no, i didn't forget to post about this, i just got so busy.

first of all, my computer finally bit the dust. as of this moment, i am doing this post on my son's netbook. i have no photo editing software, i have none of my bookmarks, and i am feeling quite frustrated by all of it. i am planning a trip to check out some new computers tomorrow. i found one i love online, but i was convinced by the love of my life to go to the store and get some hands on first.

i guess you could say i did pretty well with my goals last week. i think i may have danced only once, but i was in a pretty good mood all week for the most part because i knew jason was coming home for the weekend.

i actually did wake and get dressed up twice last week like i had set as one of my goals. i can't say i got "dressed up", but i definitely did wash my hair, shave my legs, put on make up, lotion, and body spray, and did my hair. definitely not something i do on the daily!

one of the biggest things i did for myself was to finally make a full on commitment to lose weight. if you have been keeping up, you know i joined up with a group of mommy bloggers to do the 30 day shred during the month of june.

my weight issues are definitely what have been holding me back and making me feel depressed. knowing that i have taken that step to make changes has already started to change how i feel. it's such a great feeling.

i am excited about this week's theme and look forward to working on the goals i will be setting.

this week's theme is loving life & having fun.

three goals for loving life & having fun this week:
  • look for beauty in everything and document it: at least one day this week i will take my dslr with me everywhere i go and document my day.
  • dress for yourself, and do it each day: i pretty much do this every day. although i don't dress way up, putting on jeans and a comfy t-shirt make me feel good. however, my goal will be to go through my clothes and get rid of everything that doesn't make me feel good when i wear it.
  • stop speaking negatively of others: i don't make it a habit to talk negatively of others but i definitely have found myself getting stuck in the middle of all the he said she said drama. my goal is not to speak negatively of others even when others are.

8 weeks to a better me | week 4: loving yourself

last week was probably my biggest fail so far. i guess i was trying to be a rebel or something and totally went against everything i was trying to accomplish last week. of all weeks too.

the one week i was supposed to be working on healthy eating, i ate a gallon of salsa, half a tub of ice cream, and an assortment of other rotten things.

i did manage to continue to drink water, minus the one time i had a monster energy drink, which i know are totally bad for me, but i am so addicted to them.

i guess i could blame it on my rotten mood, but i won't even do that. i am sure that it had a little something to do with it, because i totally eat up everything in sight when i am moody, but i am trying to break that awful cycle.

i am hoping to get myself back on track this week and work on this weeks goals along with some of the one's from last week as well.

this week's theme is loving yourself.

three loving myself goals for this week:
  1. find something that makes you feel good - i knew what this would be immediately. DANCE! we have a pretty awesome surround sound and i love to turn it on those tv channels that play nothing but music all day. (not like mtv. i'm talking about those channels that only play music, not music videos.) i love to crank that bad boy up and sing and dance around to the 80's music. it makes me feel awesome! tears for fears, head over heels... oh my gosh, i love it!
  2. dress up just because - i really should do this more often. i have gotten extremely comfortable with wearing gym clothes or lounge clothes all day long. my goal is to dress up at least twice this week for no reason.
  3. For every negative thought you think about yourself, think a positive one - this will most definitely be the hardest one for me. i am so quick to criticize myself.

8 weeks to a better me | week 3: healthy eating

to recap on last week's goals i had set for myself, i must say that i did pretty good. once again, i didn't fully complete my goals, but i have been accomplishing so much more now that i have started setting these small goals for myself.

last week's theme was health and fitness and my goal to workout at least five days was not met, but i "worked out" 3 times. i even mixed it up by doing an indoor workout, some yard work i had been putting off, and a 2 mile jog. considering that i went from not working out at all to 3 times, i feel good about it.

i didn't set time aside for a bath, however, i did enjoy some alone time giving myself a much needed pedicure. i purchased some new colors and items for doing manicures and pedicures last year that i was able to use for the first time.

lastly, i managed to drink water all week, except for at a friend's wedding i attended saturday. i was also the photographer, so i stuck to drinking glasses of tea.

this week's theme is healthy eating.

three healthy eating goals for this week:
  1. drink water - drink at least eight 8oz. glasses of water each day
  2. eat salads - eat at least 4 salads this week
  3. keep healthy snacks - eat two healthy snacks every day in between meals

8 weeks to a better me | week 2: health and fitness

okay, so if you missed it last week, i decided to participate in dani's "8 weeks to a better me" project over at sometimes sweet. each week has a theme, last week's theme was blogging inspiration. this week, health and fitness.

i can't say my first week was a total failure. although i didn't blog about them (yet!), i did think about my goals quite a bit. i did snap a few photos to meet my "the small things" goal, and i had planned to go to our local meet in the street street fair and was excited to share it with you, but that idea was a fail. then my last goal of creating a list of places someone who was not from around here was written on paper but never made it to a post.

so, all in all, i don't feel like a complete slacker. AND, i did create a little to do list small baby step goals to keep me feeling motivated and at the same time feeling like i was accomplishing something. i am happy to report that that list was a total win.

how?  well, i started reading a book. i haven't read a book that wasn't a school book in at least 6 months. i also planted my veggies in their starter cups, i cleaned out my disgusting mom mobile (aka, my minivan. i took a toothbrush to that baby, and it looks like new), and i took apart my kids' trampoline and tossed it in the trash (some of the spring were broken...not safe at all!).

it really feels good to get off my butt and get something done. i was certain not to create a list that was too overwhelming.

thanks dani for your inspiration!

this week's theme is health and fitness.

three health and fitness goals for this week:
  1. find out what your limit is, and push yourself further - workout at least five days. get up early at least 2 days and workout in the morning.
  2. be nice to yourself - set aside some time to take a bath instead of taking a shower. drink only water all week.
  3. mix it up - use my wii fit or xbox kinect for at least one workout. split my workouts up (30 minutes twice a day, 15 minutes four times a day, whatever works best) to fit my busy schedule.

8 weeks to a better me | week 1: blogging inspiration

dani over at sometimes sweet has started a great little project called "8 weeks to a better me" that i am participating in. the idea came after writing this post that encouraged her to write a few "better myself" goals that she would work on during that current week (a total of 7 days).

dani's attempt was to provide herself with short term attainable goals that she says were to "broaden my horizons, expand my mind, and spend the time I have wisely."

that one week sparked dani to start this 8 week project.  she has brought together some of her favorite bloggers to work with her on this project with each week focusing on a different "theme".

this week's theme is blogging inspiration.

for more information on dani's "8 weeks to a better me" project, be sure to stop by her blog sometimes sweet; where you can also watch a great video from her first guests.

i have intertwined dani's goals for this week into my own goals and tweaked them a little.

three blogging goals for this week:
  1. the small things - photograph several moments that i don't normally photograph such as phoenix tying her shoes or tyler brushing her hair and share at the end of the week.
  2. support local - blog about a local business or event in my area.
  3. love your community - make a list of the places i would recommend if someone from out of town were to visit my town/community. share some unique details about these places and take or find photos to share as well.
