Cross It Off My Summer Bucket List - Cleaning Out Storage

DSC_1991
I was eager to get into storage and weed through all of Jason's stuff so that we could finally put our stuff together and move on to new parts of our life journey.  When we first met, he was a Marine, living in his own place with all of his own stuff.  I lived 3 hours away in my own place with my own stuff.  Even though he didn't live on base, the 4 bedroom townhouse he lived in was military owned, and therefor he had to move when he finally got out.

He wasn't really sure where he was going to move to, but he knew he was going to move closer to me, so we just decided that he would stay with me until he got an apartment.  He packed just enough stuff for maybe a month's stay and put everything in storage.  A month turned into years and finally we decided to go down to where he was storing his stuff and get it, go through it, and get rid of what we didn't need.

When we got down there, we rented a 17 foot U-haul and went over to military storage to discover that he had enough stuff for two 17 foot U-haul trucks.  Therefor we had to go through most of it and decide right there what stays and what goes.

So after finally getting what we wanted packed up and brought home, we had to go through it all again and get rid of any unnecessary stuff. I am sure you can see lots of that in the photos. :)

Going through it, we realized that majority of it was not really needed because we already had a lot of it and rather than dig out my stuff to replace it with his stuff (cause honestly, and totally not to hurt my poor guys feelings, but most of my stuff is better anyways...LOVE YOU Jason!)

We had at least 15+ boxes of stuff...to get rid of.

Fortunately, Craigslist came in handy, and I posted on Craigslist that we had all these boxes of stuff, mixed with trash, and that someone could have it if they got it all, trash and everything.  Of course someone did and we didn't have to load it all back up and take it to Goodwill or the dump.

The man who got it could not have been nicer.  He even offered to take our boxes of nothing but trash and some other items sitting out by our storage building that we no longer wanted (an old mower, an old trailer with two flat tires, an old grill, and a table). He was even honest enough to tell us that all he planned to do was sell the stuff through yard sale to save up enough money to take his family on vacation.  I really hope that the stuff we gave him contributes to a really great vacation for that man and his family.

And I feel so much better, now that we have gone through it all.  Although my house doesn't look quite like the pictures anymore, it is still a mess to clean as we find places for all of this...STUFF!

Check out our Bucket List here, to see what all we hope to accomplish this summer.
