my kitchen is screaming for a makeover!

ever since we got our new refrigerator, i have been thinking that our kitchen needs a major overhaul. pretty much everything is outdated, and definitely not my taste, and those walls i painted lime green a few years ago have got to go. what was i thinking?

i recently found a lot of great items at world market that match my sense of style that i like to describe as industrial meets vintage meets eclectic. i really don't know how to describe it, but i do know that i love the use of metal, wood, and glass as main elements with pops of color. i also love adding vintage with pieces like canning jars, wire hanging fruit baskets, and wooden bowls...all things i remember my mom having in her kitchen when i was very young.

my world market kitchen

1. glass yorkshire dispenser
2. 6 bud vases with wire caddy
3. three-tier hanging wire basket
4. jackson kitchen cart
5. yellow pig serving bowls, set of 2
6. plum fleur de lys highball glass, set of 4
7. red schoolhouse counter stool

i loved "window shopping" for everything i put together and enjoyed making this world market pinspiration board of all my favorite items. i have the best spot for that kitchen cart, with those bud vases on top filled with all the best flowers, and at least two of those red stools. that wire basket would hang right next to it filled with all of the yummiest fruits. my favorite is always adding pops of color, so that red stool fits in nicely. let's be honest, red is one of those colors that works with everything. don't believe me? ask me to explain that one to you! {grin}

even with the simplicity of a kitchen redo (which is exactly what i like), i can see myself whipping up some wonderful things in a kitchen like this during the upcoming fall and winter holidays, and all year round. i found an assortment of items that fit within my budget but i think i might just add a few of these to my holiday wish list. what would you add to your wish list?

do this with a canning jar

Small canning jar with holes in top for powdered sugar on our French toast. Gonna make one with bigger holes for my Parmesan cheese.

i just discovered the blog, the burlap bag, and saw this quick and simple idea to do with a canning jar for powdered sugar. i love this idea and have been thinking of other things to make these for as well...like cinnamon & sugar, or even poke larger holes for parmesan cheese.

it is super easy to make these yourself. simply use a nail and hammer to poke holes in the metal lid. do as many as you like depending on how much you want to come out at one time (of course, a larger nail will make a larger hole).

so neat, go try it!

chopsticks

we are huge fans of sushi and all types of asian food, so just recently i thought it would be a great idea to get all of us our own chopsticks. here are some of the awesome chopsticks out there that i am considering.

my favorite type of sushi? definitely the philly roll. i absolutely love salmon and love the combo of salmon and crea cheese in the philly.

what about you, what is your favorite type of sushi?

this giveaway is a crock of...

butter?

042

actually it is indeed a butter crock. a butter bell® crock and i love it!

when i first received the butter bell® crock i thought to myself, "wow, i will probably use this a couple times and then it will end up tucked away somewhere in the deep dark recesses of one of my cabinets.

6877_1111_2010_10_04_18_44_59

no way baby! not this thing!

i had no idea what a butter crock was until i read about them.

even after reading about butter crocks on the butter bell® website, having it in hand was when i discovered how handy this thing really is.

044

i love how the butter bell® crock allows me to keep butter at room temperature for easy use.

i have my butter bell® crock sitting on the counter next to my stove. if i need a lil bit o' butta, then i just lift and scoop.

the butter bell® crock holds exactly one stick of butter, that is kept fresh with water that is kept in the bottom of the crock.  every 3 days, i change out the water in the bottom of the crock with fresh cold water to keep the butter from spoiling.

butter bell® crock's are made of new bone china, a high quality ceramic.

the downfall of the butter crock?
you may begin to use more butter than you normally do.

but i don't consider that a problem if you don't.

036

butter stays good for about 30 days in the butter bell® crock as long as the crock is used properly, which includes changing out the water every three days, as i mentioned.

do you own or have you ever used a butter crock?

right now, butter bell® is running a special on butter bell® crocks:

Holiday Special Offer:
for every two butter bell® crocks that you purchase, you get a FREE crock. The specific offer details are available on their website. The offer runs through Dec. 15th, 2010.

recently featured on food network on unwrapped, butter bell® crocks would make a great gift to anyone in your life.
