my new favorite fall juice and how to deseed a pomegranate

fall and winter produce some of my favorite fruits and i have incorporated them all together to make one heck of a yummy juice that i have been enjoying a lot lately. last year, it was all i could do to find cranberries, but the first time i spotted them, i was sure to scoop up a few bags so i could enjoy them for a while. here is a quick and simple juice recipe that you are sure to love.

fall juice_1 fall juice_2

delicious fall fruits juice
  • 4 clemintines or 3 oranges
  • 3 granny smith apples
  • 1 cup of cranberries
  • 1 whole pomegranate

add to your juicer and enjoy!

the combination here produces a tart juice that you can definitely add a little bit of your favorite natural sweetener to (or sugar if that's what you like) to tone it down. i personally love the tart flavor, with an underlying sweetness.

clementines are definitely sweeter than a regular orange and what i recommend most. they are hard to find any other time of year so why not enjoy them as much as you can right now. cranberries and pomegranates are pretty hard to find any other time of year also so grab them up and use them often.

speaking of pomegranates, did you know there is a super easy way to remove the seeds? chcek out this video with martha stewart before you cut open your next pomegranate.

fat butt friday: the jack lalanne power juicer express

last week i talked about juicing and how much i have enjoyed this new found way of incorporating more fruits and veggies into my diet. there are so many juicers out there to chose from that i didn't really know where to begin. i had done quite a bit of research that led me to the breville line of juicers, however, i wasn't willing to spend that kind of money right now. i wanted to make sure that i was going to keep up with juicing and that i wouldn't eventually put my juicer in a cabinet to collect dust.

so far we are still going strong. i love juicing!

juicer 2

i had heard great things about the jack lalanne juicers, so i picked one up at target...the jack lalanne power juicer express. there were actually two other juicers to choose from on the shelf but had never heard of them.

i can't really compare the jack lalanne juicer to any other, but i can say that i am pleased with it. i haven't had any issues with any of the fruits or vegetables that i have put into it. this juicer is also very easy to clean. it is dishwasher safe, but i usually just rinse it out with a little soap and water and let dry our dish rack.

juicer 1

the only thing i am a little disappointed in is the spout not being higher. i usually have to use a short glass or jar while i am juicing and then have to pour it into a larger container if i want a large glass of juice.

overall, i enjoy the jack lalanne juicer i chose and i would recommend it to others. as long as it continues to work, i really have no need to purchase one of those more expensive juicers.

fat butt friday: juicing it up!

about two weeks ago, i purchased my first juicer.  my plan was to purchase an inexpensive juicer first to see if i would enjoy juicing. then, once i felt that my juicer wouldn't end up in a cabinet collecting dust, i would purchase the juicer i really wanted.

i had been interested in juicing for awhile but when an instagram friend suggested watching the movie fat, sick, and nearly dead, i was pushed to finally make the decision to purchase a juicer after seeing it. although i don't plan to do a 30 day juicing fast like the one documented in the movie, i do plan to use my juicer to add more fruits and vegetables into my diet each day.

#freshjuiceoftheday - orange & grapefruit. Something simple because I had nightmares about that awful beet juice mix I made yesterday.

i honestly thought that juicing would just be a phase for me and i would give it up after a few days. but, so far i have managed to get up every morning and make healthy combinations of some of my favorite fruits and vegetables and get my day off to a great start.

if you are a juice drinker, i would highly recommend getting a juicer. most of those store bought juices are packed full of sugar and other ingredients that are not good for your body. i honestly don't even know why sugar is added to those juices in the store because every fruit juice that i have made have been super sweet and delicious. even my favorite carrot, apple, ginger juice is as sweet as any juice you would buy in the store.

did you know that most of the juices in the store have been pasteurized? that means they have been cooked. cooking fruits and vegetables actually removes some of the healthy nutrients from them.

benefits of juicing :
  • since juice takes hardly any digestion, the body can absorb the nutrients faster.
  • drinking the juice of a fruit or veggie is easier than eating it's equivalency.
  • it detoxifies your body
  • great way to increase your daily consumption of fruits and veggies
  • great source of vitamins and minerals

my three favorite juices that you should try too :

juice #1:
1 mango - 1 pineapple - 2 limes - 2 kiwi - 1 grapefruit - 3 oranges

juice #2
8 large carrots (or 24 baby carrots) - 2 large red apples - ginger to taste

juice #3
3 large green apples - 1 lime - 2 big handfuls of spinach - 5 large stalks of kale - ginger to taste

#freshjuiceoftheday - mango, lime, pineapple, orange, kiwi, grapefruit. #juicing #fruit #freshjuiceoftheday - 2nd juice of the day. 1 apple, 16 baby carrots, ginger to taste. My new favorite. #veggies #vegetables, #fruit #juicing#freshjuiceoftheday - 2nd juice of the day. Green apples, lime, kale, spinach, ginger. Yum! Very refreshing!

all three of these juice combinations have a very refreshing flavor and make great juices to start your day with. although i have vegetables in two of the juices i shared with you, i haven't found many veggie juices that i enjoy.

if you have any juice combinations that you love, please share them in the comments. i love experimenting with my juicer to find new and delicious juice combinations.

as far as my weight, i honestly don't know what happened this week. i wasn't really on weight watchers because of all the juicing, but i have been cautious of what i eat. i really hope that juicing isn't going to interfere with my progress because it is such a great replacement to chips, cookies, cake, and icecream (all my favorites...which i have had NONE of this week).

here are my stats:
160 lbs. - start weight
156.0 lbs. - previous weigh in
158.0 lbs. - current weight
