product review: mega bloks

a few weeks ago, we received an awesome package from mega bloks that came with the new thomas and friends sodor search and rescue set.


elijah LOVES thomas the train, and just recently we bought him several die cast thomas and friends trains that he carries everywhere with him. he was so excited when he got the sodor search and rescue set because it is a completely buildable track that...wait for it...is totally compatible with his other trains!

the set also came with a buildable thomas the train as well and elijah has spent hours, yes hours folks, playing with this new thomas and friends set every day so far. that's years in toddler time. i kid you not, he played with it all day every day for the entire first week. he already knows how to take apart and rebuild the entire set, with little help, by himself.

the set includes a container that also doubles as a building platform. once you are done building, all the pieces go right into the container for easy storage.like i said, everything is buildable with a variety of pieces, including a buildable thomas the train, a buildable helicopter, doors that open and close, train track pieces, and a working crane. i love that not only is he enjoying his toys, but he is building his fine motor skills working with all the pieces. things like this are very important to me.

mega bloks thomas and friends sodor search and rescue (ages 3 and up) can be found at most target, walmart, and toys-r-us stores. suggested retail price: $29.99

the set suggests this toy to be for ages 3+ but elijah is totally capable of handling these toys with no difficulty and the pieces are big enough not to worry about a choking hazard.

the only questionable part is the crane that comes with the set. it was the only piece i removed and saved for when elijah is a little older. other than that, i have been okay with him playing with this set. that's just my opinion. you should definitely look into it for yourself and make your own decisions.
