Fat Butt Friday - Calorie Counting

"One of my New Year's wishes was to shed some of the weight I had gained during my pregnancy with Little Monster, and so in my attempt to do so, I felt it was harder to hide late night snacking and lack of motivation if I put myself on the line and in the spotlight. Every Friday, I will be sharing my weight loss journey (including my successes and failures), as well as delicious recipes, meal ideas, and exercise suggestions. Join me if you accept the challenge to lose weight and gain a healthier life! (Don't forget to grab my button in the sidebar)

Calorie Count is another one of those sites that helps you keep record of the food you eat and the exercise you do each day.  However, my favorite part is the food browser.  Right on their Home page, you can type in a particular food and it will give you the Nutrition Facts for that item.  But again, that is not the best part about the food browser.  The best part about the food browser is that I can type in "McDonald's" or almost any nationwide food chain and it will give you the Nutrition Facts for their most popular menu items.

I have enjoyed browsing the different restaurants to see what their healthiest food options are.  So, when we ever decide to eat out, I will feel better about my choices.

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know that a Big Mac from McDonald's has 540 calories?  For my body, it is recommended that I enjoy no more than 1200 calories a day.  That is a little less than half in one sitting, and that doesn't include fries or a drink. I personally don't eat Big Mac's, but just as an example, if I were to add a large french fries, and a Diet Dr. Pepper, I will be consuming 1040 calories in one meal.

How disgusted do you feel now?  I feel horrible just thinking about it!

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE McDonald's (they must put something in the food)!  It is okay to eat occasionally if you are going to eat like I described above.  However, McDonald's does offer up some delicious healthier options.  If you are on the go like we are, it is not always convenient to eat a healthy meal at home. Although eating at home and preparing your food yourself is the best way to ensure that no extras are included that add calories, eating out does not have to destroy your diet or your figure.

And... if you are just dying to have a McDonald's super-sized burger combo with the works, get one on a day that you are going to be most active and can work a lot of it off.  Confession:  I had a Big-n-Tasty with cheese the other day (and it was just that...big and tasty)! But, I did spend the rest of that afternoon helping Jason move all of his stuff out of storage.

Go check out Calorie Count and type in your favorite restaurant on the home page and see out how many calories your favorite menu item contains. Then look for something else on their menu you could choose instead.  I would love for you to come back and leave a comment telling me your favorite place to eat out, favorite menu item and it's calorie content and then what your healthier option would be.

Views expressed in this post are my own.  I was not in any way compensated for the mentioning of McDonald's in this post.
