Growing Up is Hard to Do

Maybe not for her, but definitely for me!
Hard for me to watch her grow up that is!
Red had her {first big dance} last night. Now that Red is in middle school, dances have come along with the joy of being a tweenager. She has not gone to any of the other school dances this year, each time telling me that she just wants to go to the Spring Formal.
Originally, I had planned to order her dress online. I had found this amazing little dress that would have set me back ONLY $25. She wanted it, and I wanted her to have it...BAD! However, I wanted to take her to try on several dresses before I ordered it to get a right size. Red is very short (as you can tell by her standing next to her friends) and extremely slim, sometimes making it difficult to get a good fit. But, I am a terrible procrastinator and waited until the very last possible minute to do any of that, and basically ensuring that if I ordered the dress, that she might get it, if we timed it right, exactly one day later than we needed it. Even overnight was no guarantee.
So we rushed out to Kohl's to find this dress. Of course, she would rather have had the other one (shame on me!) but she did indeed {love} this one too. The best part? The price tag said $56 and the register said $33. Yay! I love when that happens!
I did her hair...she only wanted it to be flat ironed. She is not a ruffles and bows and tight springy curls kinda gal.
She was so excited to go. We met up with her friend Hannah beforehand so that they could walk in together. However, when I got there, we all decided to go in. Weeeeelllll, it wasn't a mutual agreement. In fact, it went something like this... "I thought you were leaving!"
I just wanted to take a few pictures! Their theme was The Monte Carlo Casino. Look at the ticket. Can you tell me what you see?
Later on I got this..."I just want you to leave! You said you were going to leave! This is the worst dance ever!"
So, I left...with a tear in my eye!
She had a great time, and even reported back that two boys asked her to dance. I made it very clear to her that she needed to wait until the boy asks her to dance with him. I had hoped that some mothers out there had taught their sons to be gentlemen. Thank you to those two mothers who had.
I am so glad that she had a wonderful time! She is growing up so fast!
