A Day in Court & My Pink Scissors

I had to go to court in Raleigh today because of a traffic ticket I received while out on maternity leave with Elijah. I hadn't been to the Wake County Courthouse in a long while, so when I got down there, the parking deck that I was familiar with (I guess you could say the one I "normally" park at, although I don't frequent the courthouse) was GONE! It honestly was a perfectly good parking deck, but it had been demolished. I ended up parking two blocks up and walking. This would not normally be that big of a deal, except, I had on painful shoes.

When I got there, I got in line to go through the metal detector like everyone else and when I got to the front of the line I put my purse on the conveyor belt to go through the x-ray machine. Then, I proceeded through the metal detector. As I made my way to the end of the conveyor belt, I was pulled aside by one of the officers.

She asked me if I was carrying scissors in my purse.

"Oh No! My couponing scissors!"

I had forgotten to take my pink couponing scissors out of my purse and there was a big sign that said,

"Any items that are confiscated will NOT be returned!"

The officer offered to let me take them back to my car, leading to this conversation in my head...

"Back to my car? All that way back for a pair of scissors? Well, they are my favorite scissors. Favorite scissors? Who has favorite scissors? Well, a lot of people I am sure....maybe...well, me at least."

And finally my decision...

"No Thanks! You can keep them."

I just didn't think my feet could take it, nor did I think it was worth the trip.

So, sadly, after a ten year relationship of coupon cutting, gift wrapping, a few hair cuts, and many arts and crafts projects, my pink scissors and I parted ways today. Perhaps that officer is sitting at home using them tonight!

...And YES, I do miss them!
